What 4,599 Students Told Us About College Communication: The ZeeMee Poll Results

At ZeeMee, we’re always listening to students - and our latest poll of 4,599 high schoolers gave us powerful insights into how they want to hear from colleges.

Here’s what stood out:

Traditional Communication is Falling Flat

Phone calls and direct mail ranked as the least effective ways for colleges to contact students. Gen Z is clearly signaling that cold calls and printed flyers just aren’t cutting it anymore.

Digital is the Way In

When it comes to preferred communication, students named email, SMS, and ZeeMee direct messages as their top three channels. Quick, direct, and mobile-friendly wins every time.

Authentic Social Media Stands Out

Students told us they love engaging with colleges on Instagram, TikTok, and of course, ZeeMee. These are the platforms where authentic, visual, and relatable content thrives - and where schools can truly connect.

Content That Catches Eyes

The content that grabs the most attention while students are browsing colleges? Campus tour videos. They want to see where they might live, learn, and belong.

Why Students Join ZeeMee

The #1 reason students join ZeeMee? To meet other students, make connections, and find a roommate. It’s not just an app - it’s their way of building community before they even step foot on campus.

As colleges rethink their recruitment strategy, these insights offer a clear roadmap: meet students where they are, speak their language, and prioritize connection over convention.

Stay tuned—ZeeMee is where the future of student engagement is unfolding.
